"Star, my beautiful yellow lab, has shared my life since she was six weeks old. Like perhaps your pet, she has taught me the true meaning of unconditional love, devotion, and companionship. My devotion and love for Star has evolved into an appreciation for The Humane Society of the United States' (www.hsus.org) Pets for Life program.

According to the HSUS, behavior problems top the list of reasons for pet relinquishment. The goal of Pets for Life is to make sure the human-animal bond is strengthened and never broken. Additionally, the program is geared towards helping both pet and shelter owners train animals properly so that major behavioral problems do not develop. Most 'behavioral' issues are easily solved, and learning to protect an animal by becoming a better caregiver, has taught me lifelong relationship lessons."
